Creatify Labs: a brand from the night sky

Creatify's first AI model was called Aurora. Its name became the starting point for a whole sub-brand: a mark, a palette, motion and sound, all designed in one week.

The brief

Take the aurora, and make it ours.

The name Aurora set the direction. Creatify's own brand already lives in gradients, so the goal was to take the aurora borealis and our current branding and morph them into something new: a sub-brand that clearly belongs to Creatify, but has a world of its own.

I had about a week to do all of it.

The mark

One shape: an A, a star, and an upward arc.

I started with the logo. At the time the brand was going to be called Aurora by Creatify, so I wanted the mark to read as an A. I drew it as a shooting star tracing an upward arc that resolves into that A.

One shape carries three ideas: A for Aurora, the star for the night sky, and the upward trajectory for momentum. When the sub-brand was renamed Creatify Labs, the mark still worked, so it stayed.

Where it started: a page of notebook sketches, from Aurora wordmarks to shooting stars and the first A.

Early exploration: an upward A
Early exploration: the shooting sweep
Final mark: shooting star forming an A

Then in vector: from an upward A, to the sweep of a shooting star, to the final mark.

The construction, stacked and side by side: a square, its diagonals and a center cross set the arc and the star.

Color

A palette sampled from the night sky.

The reference

The palette is sampled straight from the aurora borealis: a polar night sky with emerald greens, teals, blues, purples and pinks glowing over it. The gradient is the signature, and the solid colors handle UI, type and accents. Keeping everything on a dark base is what makes the colors feel luminous.

Motion and sound

The star spins in, and you hear it land.

I designed the logo animation too. The star spins in and draws the A, then the wordmark slides out from behind it through a soft blur.

I added the sound design as well: a swoosh as the star moves and a shimmer as it lands. Turn your sound on for the one below.

Storyboard: the star spins and forms the A
Storyboard: the star moves right as the wordmark slides out from behind it
Storyboard: the final logo, with the name beside the star

First, the storyboards I drew for the animation, notes and all.

Then the final: the Creatify Labs outro, with sound. The star, the swoosh, the shimmer.

Backgrounds

The same sky, stretched across everything.

I designed a series of aurora backgrounds so the brand could stretch across everything, from decks to videos to thumbnails, while always feeling like the same sky.

Aurora background: blue and green
Aurora background: purple and pink
Aurora background: green and teal

The system

A kit that holds up at any size.

The kit covers a wide logo with the name beside the star for headers and banners, a stacked version for squares and end cards, and an app icon built to survive shrinking, so the star still reads at small sizes on any screen or browser tab.
